• This Baylor family’s blood has run green and gold for a century

    Fultz family

Between the 1910s and World War II, six siblings from the Fultz family came from the small town of Navasota, Texas, to attend Baylor University. Around the same time, another Baylor student, Ralph Lee, was meeting his future wife, Janette.

These two families had no idea what they had begun.

A century later, at least 40 members of the Fultz-Lee family have attended Baylor — up to and including J.P. Fultz, BBA ’15, and his brother Jake, a current freshman. With their long lineage, the brothers will be fourth-generation Baylor graduates — on both sides of the family.

“My wife, Sherry (BBA ’89) and I met at Baylor,” says the brothers’ dad, Jeff Fultz, BA ’89, yet another member of this large Baylor family. “Sherry was our fraternity sweetheart.”

Jeff’s parents had also met at Baylor, and were married in Miller Chapel. Jeff’s father played football at Baylor in the 1960s — around the same time Sherry’s father was a football team manager here.

Other members of their Baylor family include Marion Pierce, a Navy pilot killed in WWII who was honored on one of Baylor’s first memorial lampposts, and an uncle who was a Nose Brother in the 1940s (before they changed the “s” to a “z”).

“Numerous cousins, siblings and other relatives are Baylor graduates,” says Jeff Fultz. “I estimate that approximately 40+ members of my and Sherry’s family have gone to Baylor. We are Baylor!”

    Sic ’em, Fultz family!
