    "Phubbing"

No matter how you get your news, chances are good you’ve seen a story lately on “phubbing” — short for “phone snubbing,” the act of using or being distracted by your cell phone while in the company of your spouse or significant other. The phenomenon and its effects have been discussed everywhere from the Today Show to TIME magazine.

What you may not have realized is that these stories are all based on recently published research by two Baylor professors. Drs. James Roberts and Meredith David, marketing professors in Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business, published their study — titled “My life has become a major distraction from my cell phone” — in the most recent volume of the academic journal Computers in Human Behavior.

The point is, this is both important and engaging work being done by Baylor professors — research that really can affect our lives. And this is just the latest example; you can browse back through these stories for even more examples.
