• Summer Send-Off Parties connect new Baylor students from coast to coast

    Baylor Summer Send-Off Parties

Hundreds of incoming Baylor students are headed to campus this fall from places where seeing someone dressed in green and gold and throwing up a “sic ’em” isn’t an everyday occurrence. But in places like Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles, and dozens of other cities across the nation, there are more members of the Baylor family then you (and they) might guess.

That’s why the Baylor Parents Network hosts dozens of Summer Send-Off Parties each summer — to connect incoming students, to answer questions about the Baylor experience for both students and parents, and to get students fired up about being a Bear shortly before they leave home. Volunteers host the parties in homes, churches or local facilities, and students are routinely surprised at how many students in their area come to Baylor (giving them a head start on making friends for when they arrive in the fall).

The number of Summer Send-Off Parties is steadily growing. Last year, 4,000+ students and parents attended more than 70 parties in 23 different states from coast to coast. This year, the Parents Network projects about 80 Send-Off Parties, having added events in Jackson, Miss., Tucson, Jacksonville and Philadelphia. The parties are a final welcome to Baylor before the students leave home, sometimes drawing even Baylor dignitaries like President Ken Starr and his wife, Alice. Even RG3 has attended a send-off party or two in the past to show students what Baylor is all about.

Is there a Send-Off Party near you? You can check out all the locations on the Parents Network event calendar and see pictures from parties as they happen on the Parents Network Facebook page.

Sic ’em, Parents Network and Summer Send-Off Parties!
