I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who said that there are three things certain in life: death, taxes, and Baylor tennis winning Big 12 titles.

Both the Baylor men and women clinched 2015 conference championships this weekend. For head coach Matt Knoll’s men, it was their 13th regular season title in 16 years; for Joey Scrivano’s Lady Bears, it was their 11th in the last 13 years.

But for each team, this is just the beginning. This weekend, Baylor will host the Big 12 Tennis Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center this weekend, the fourth time our campus has hosted the event.

And even that is a warm-up of sorts for these programs; in May, Baylor will host the NCAA Tennis Championships (May 14-25) for the first time. In tennis, the NCAA tournament begins with first- and second-round matches played at regional locations; after that, the final 16 teams for both the men and women converge on a single site. With 12 outdoor courts at the Hurd Tennis Center plus six covered courts at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center, Baylor’s facility is among the best in the nation — and deserving of hosting the sport’s national championship.

With the Baylor men ranked No. 2 in the nation and the Baylor women ranked No. 8, there’s a good chance BU fans will get to cheer on our home teams at the national championships next month. Tickets are on sale now.

    Sic ’em, Baylor tennis!
