• President Starr talks worldwide religious freedom with former Congressman Frank Wolf

    On Topic with Frank Wolf

Over his 30+ years in Congress, Rep. Frank Wolf came to be known as the “conscience of the House” and a staunch defender of religious liberty, both domestically and abroad. In January, after retiring from politics, he joined the Baylor family as the Jerry and Susie Wilson Chair in Religious Freedom; Wednesday night, he joined President Ken Starr for a public conversation on religious liberty across the globe. (See photos from the event here.)

The latest in the president’s “On Topic” series was held at McLane Stadium’s Baylor Club, as President Starr and Rep. Wolf discussed the crisis facing people of all faiths and ISIS gains control in the Middle East. “The one constant comment from [people in the Middle East], particularly from the Christian community, was, ‘Does the church in the west care?'” Wolf said. “They feel a sense of abandonment.”

Wolf summed up the evening, his passion for the subject, and his call to action for those in attendance simply: “Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

Rep. Wolf’s talk marked the 10th “On Topic” event on the Baylor campus, adding to a list of guests that also has included billionaire alternative energy proponent T. Boone Pickens, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, longtime U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell.

Next up: Former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, who will visit Waco on April 28. Free tickets will be made available starting March 30.

    Sic ’em, Rep. Wolf!
