• McLane Stadium to host historic worship event

    The Gathering

    On March 29, thousands of people will fill Baylor’s McLane Stadium for what could be the largest worship service in Waco history: “The Gathering.”

    Baylor is blessed to be a part of this historic Palm Sunday event, and it’s only fitting that McLane Stadium be the setting. After all, the stadium sits right on the banks of the Brazos River (knownto early Spanish explorers as the Rio de los Brazos de Dios — the “river of the arms of God”), smack in the heart of Texas, where leaders from across the state can gather.

    Special guests include:

    • Dr. Tony Evans, senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (named among the top 50 most influential churches in America in 2006);
    • Israel Houghton, of Israel Houghton & New Breed, worship pastor at Lakewood Church in Houston;
    • Jeff Deyo, former lead singer of Sonicflood (best known for No. 1 Christian radio hits “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever” and “I Want to Know You”);
    • Bryce Petty, BSED ’13, MSED ’14, former Baylor quarterback; and
    • Chip (BBA ’98) and Joanna (BA ’01) Gaines, Baylor alumni and stars of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper.”

    Many of the event’s organizers also have strong Baylor ties, including five out of eight members of the The Gathering’s executive team (Ramiro Pena, BA ’88 and a former Baylor Regent; Jimmy Seibert, BBA ’86; Billy Edwards, BSED ’78; John Durham, BA ’92; and Wayne Williams, BA ’91).

    This event (5-7 p.m, Sunday, March 29) is not just for the Baylor family, not just for Wacoans, and not even just for Texans – it’s for everyone. And, it’s completely free – minus the two canned goods attendees are asked to bring to support local food pantries. (Curious about parking? Click here for details.)

    Can’t make it to the event? News Channel 25 will broadcast the event locally, and KWTX.com will stream the service online.

    Sic ’em, Bears!
