• Baylor alum to represent U.S. on golf’s biggest stage

    Jimmy Walker

Many golfers will tell you that the Ryder Cup is the biggest event out there. Not the Masters, not the U.S. Open, not the PGA Championship, but the every-other-year match that pits America’s best against Europe’s best in an unusual team format.

This year, “America’s best” includes a Baylor Bear: Jimmy Walker.

The former Baylor All-American turned pro in 2001 and made the PGA Tour just three years later. But injuries derailed his career for several years. Things finally began to gel again for Walker in 2008, but his career reached new heights this year. The San Antonio resident claimed his first three PGA wins this season, finished in the top 10 seven other times, and ranks 7th in the FedExCup standings and 19th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

This weekend, he’ll get to represent the United States on one of golf”s biggest stages. “Anybody who plays professional golf dreams about playing on the Ryder Cup team,” Walker told the San Antonio Express-News. “You’re playing for your country. We all want to get over there and win. We’re anxious to show everybody what we can do.”

    Sic ’em, Jimmy!
