• Baylor wedding features another McLane Stadium groom’s cake

    McLane Stadium groom's cake

With the opening of Baylor football’s new home now less than 75 days away, apparently the McLane-Stadium-as-groom’s-cake phenomenon is still going.

Pictured above is 2010 Baylor grad Stephen Strake’s groom’s cake from his wedding to the former Jessica Malzahn (BS ’10) late last month. The two got married in St. Louis, but made sure the wedding had plenty of Baylor flair.

In addition to the groom’s cake, the ceremony featured a pair of Baylor singers in Holly Tucker, a Baylor senior who was a finalist on NBC’s The Voice last year, and Bryan Watt, BM ’08, a Baylor alum who appeared on American Idol this spring. “Their duet on ‘How Great Thou Art’ resembled the version Carrie Underwood sings with Vince Gill,” says the bride’s sister, Rebecca, BA ’14. “They [Gill and Underwood] may as well have been in the room.”

The church’s entry hall was adorned with many Baylor tributes, and two ice sculptures (an interlocking BU and a bear with raised paw) welcomed guests in the foyer.

With all the green and gold, it should come as no surprise that both the bride and groom come from Baylor families. The bride’s parents, three siblings, two uncles and two aunts all attended Baylor, while the groom’s mother, sister and two brothers can all say the same.

Sic ’em, Baylor brides and grooms!
