• Baylor lands cover of 2014 ‘Texas Football’ magazine

2014-DCTF-Cover-fullFor the first time since 1975, Baylor football alone commands the cover of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.

That bears saying again. Baylor hasn’t taken the cover in this fashion in almost 40 years; this was the last Baylor cover.

According to the magazine’s editor, Greg Tepper, Baylor head coach Art Briles — the quintessential Texan — said he’d rather be on the cover of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football than Sports Illustrated. Many across the state refer to the magazine — now in its 55th year, and founded by a Baylor alum — as “the bible of Texas football.”

“It was a slam-dunk pick for the cover this year,” said Tepper. “The cover of Texas Football always aspires to reflect the biggest story in the state that year, and there’s little doubt that the Bears are the biggest story in Texas. With the meteoric rise of the long-downtrodden program thanks in large part to consummate Texan Art Briles, plus a new stadium, Baylor is — for truly the first time — the football center of the Lone Star State.”

While the magazine is sold primarily just in Texas, the news of Baylor’s honor went much further, earning stories from NBCSports.com and Yahoo! Sports.

The 400-page preview magazine will hit newsstands June 20; look for it at stores across Texas, or order a copy online.

    Sic ’em, Baylor football!
