• McLane Stadium groom’s cake highlights this Baylor Proud wedding

    Baker-Jones cake

You may have seen the photo above of the McLane Stadium groom’s cake that was making the rounds online last week; even Yahoo! Sports picked up the story. But as magnificent as the cake was, that was only the beginning of the Baylor connections on display at this wedding reception.

First off, as you might have guessed, both the bride (Claire Jones, BSED ’12) and the groom (Clint Baker, BBA ’11) are proud Baylor graduates. In fact, they both come from families with green-and-gold blood; all four of their parents are BU grads as well, with Claire’s father a longtime Baylor Regent and Clint’s grandfather the co-author of Baylor’s fight song.

Guests were awed by the groom’s cake, of course; standing between 3 and 4 feet high, it was built to exact scale of the real McLane Stadium going up on the Brazos, complete with a working videoboard (actually an 8×10 digital photo frame, showing pictures of the happy couple).

The reception also featured an impressive ice sculpture of Pat Neff Hall, and representatives of the Golden Wave Band were on hand to play the fight song — a nod to both Clint’s grandfather and Claire’s time as a Baylor cheerleader. (The bride even joined some of her bridesmaids in cheering along with the band’s performance.)

Sic ’em, Baylor brides and grooms!
