• Baylor alums and students standing out from NBC to Hollywood to SXSW

Viewers of NBC’s Chicago P.D. Wednesday night were introduced to a host of familiar Baylor names, thanks to the series’ co-creators, Derek Haas (BA ’91, MA ’95) and Michael Brandt (BBA ’91, MA ’94). In just one episode, references included a home being robbed belonged to a Mr. Hankamer, a mysterious former case concerning a man named Browning, and a dead cop named Penland.

But Haas and Brandt aren’t the only Baylor Film and Digital Media alums attracting attention even this week. A film written and directed by alumnus Geoff Moore (BA ’98), Better Living Through Chemistry, hits both theaters and iTunes today. The movie stars Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Monaghan, Ray Liotta and Jane Fonda, and tells the dark story of a pharmacist whose life spirals out of control after he gets involved with a customer.

Meanwhile, a group of Baylor FDM students, faculty, and staff were VIPs for Microsoft at South by Southwest this past week (pictured above). There, they interacted with representatives from Microsoft, Adobe, digital cinema software company ASSIMILATE, Inc., and camera manufacturer RED to discuss exciting collaborations. The Baylor group also received valuable hands-on training with RED cameras while interacting with professionals in the industry.

Baylor was invited to attend the SXSW event because of recent collaborations with ASSIMILATE, Inc., Microsoft and RED that provided Baylor with software, equipment, training and the opportunity to do a case study to show how Baylor FDM utilizes these resources and partnerships with these companies.

Sic ’em, Baylor FDM students and alumni!
