• Baylor alum claims 3rd PGA win in 8 tries this season

    Jimmy Walker

In the last 20 years, only four players on the PGA Tour have won three of their first eight starts in a season: Tiger Woods. Phil Mickelson. David Duval. And now, Baylor alum Jimmy Walker.

Walker won the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am this past weekend, his third win of this PGA season after zero wins in his first 13 years on the tour. The former Baylor All-American won the Frys.com Open in October, fending off Vijay Singh by two strokes, and the Sony Open in Hawaii last month, when he overcame a two-stroke deficit in the final round for the victory.

At Baylor from 1998-2001, Walker was a star in the making, earning All-Big 12 honors each of his four years. He turned pro in 2001 and was named Nationwide Tour Player of the Year in 2004, earning his PGA Tour card in the process. But a difficult neck injury bothered him after that, and he struggled to regain his form for a couple of years.

Since things began to come back together again in 2008, he has improved his place in the FedEx Cup every year, improving from 192nd in 2008 all the way to No. 36 last year. Thanks to his hot start — no other player on the PGA Tour has won more than once so far this season — Walker currently leads the 2014 Cup standings by a commanding margin.

    Sic ’em, Jimmy!
