• Bears prepare to celebrate Floyd Casey Stadium finale Saturday

It’s hard to believe it, but a little more than 48 hours from now, Baylor football will have played its final game at Floyd Casey Stadium.

After 64 years, the approaching Floyd Casey finale has caused many members of the Baylor family to reflect on their memories of the facility and all the famous games there, from the Miracle on the Brazos to the Bears’ win over Oklahoma earlier this year. Baylor Athletics put together a half-hour “Farewell to Floyd Casey Stadium” that aired on Fox Sports Southwest earlier this week, and local CBS affiliate KWTX aired its own 30-minute special as well. (Click the links in this paragraph to watch both online.)

As the No. 9-ranked Bears host No. 25 Texas on Saturday (2:30 p.m., FOX), a series of special events will celebrate the stadium. Baylor will wear special throwback uniforms modeled after those the 1950 team wore to open Floyd Casey (then known as Baylor Stadium). HEB, TXU Energy and Texas Farm Bureau Insurance will provide 20,000 rally towels for fans in attendance, and a special “turn out the lights” ceremony will follow the game as representatives from each decade of Floyd Casey Stadium’s life will join President Ken Starr and head coach Art Briles in officially closing down the stadium.

Tickets for the game have been sold out since October (except for student tickets, of which a full allotment of almost 10,000 was picked up in less than two days earlier this week), and a stadium-record crowd is expected as the Bears seek a Floyd Casey-record-setting 10th straight home win.

Next August, the Bears will move into the new Baylor Stadium, which is quickly going up at the intersection of I-35 and the Brazos River. (See live shots of the construction here.) It’s not too late to make your mark on the new facility; stadium bricks are still available with a gift to the Baylor Stadium Bricks campaign. Orders placed before Dec. 9 will receive a keepsake certificate in time for Christmas, and the final deadline for brick orders is March 1. Sic ’em, Bears!
