• One year out, Baylor Stadium starting to take shape

    Baylor Stadium tour

If you picked up a newspaper or turned on a TV around the state over the weekend, there’s a good chance you saw coverage of Baylor Stadium‘s construction. A media tour of the site Friday attracted reporters from all over Texas, and for good reason.

Director of Athletics Ian McCaw called Baylor Stadium “a collegiate version of Cowboys Stadium, but located in a campus setting.” Keeping in mind that Cowboys Stadium is generally considered the nation’s premier football facility, that’s a lofty goal — but one even the reporters seemed to accept.

From the exposure to millions of drivers along I-35, to the riverfront setting that calls out for both tailgating and sailgating, Baylor Stadium is already earning the nickname “Jewel of the Brazos.” Construction is on schedule and continues at a breakneck pace that will make sure things are ready to go by August 2014. Additional work in the area on an alumni events center, a Baylor hall of fame, and a new track facility will likely continue into 2015.
