Bears ringing NYSE closing bell

Hankamer School of Business Dean Terry Maness, legendary Baylor football coach Grant Teaff and former university president Robert Sloan were among a heavily Baylor-flavored group invited to ring the closing bell for the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

The group was there to honor Citizens Inc., an Austin-based life insurance company that went public on the NYSE 10 years ago. The company was founded by Harold Riley, BBA ’52, a former Baylor football All-American and longtime BU supporter whose gifts have helped provide for the Baylor Libraries’ Riley Digitization Center and a sports chaplaincy program at Truett Seminary. Riley was honored with a Baylor Legacy Award at Homecoming 2010; read more about his journey from football to life in this Baylor Magazine story.

In addition to Maness, Teaff, Sloan and Riley, the board of Citizens Inc. also includes Kay Osbourn, BBA ’89, Rick Riley, BBA ’76, and Harold Riley’s wife, Dottie.
