• Baylor alums host, honored at 2012 Gracie Awards for women in media

Angela Kinsey and Deb Carson at 2012 GraciesEach year, the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation recognizes women from all facets of media at the annual Gracie Awards. The 2012 Gracies were held last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Baylor grad Angela Kinsey, BA ’93 — better known as Angela Martin on NBC’s “The Office” — served as the night’s host, but she wasn’t the only Bear on the program.

Deb Carson, BBA ’88, a national anchor and co-host for Fox Sports Radio, received a Gracie for “Outstanding Reporter/Correspondent” — an honor given in past years to such industry veterans as NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell and CBS’ Lesley Visser. (That’s Kinsey and Carson pictured at right.)

Carson first made a name for herself at Baylor as the first female student sportscaster to call a Southwest Conference baseball game. After graduating, Carson followed a winding road through the entertainment business; at various times, she worked in television production, anchored news and traffic on Southern California radio, and appeared on television in shows from “Will & Grace” to “The Mentalist.”

After co-hosting “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on Fox Sports Radio for a year, she now anchors the network’s National and L.A. Sports Reports during weekday afternoon drive time (2-9 p.m. CT). Fox Sports Radio can be heard on more than 300 affiliates nationwide, including Dallas’ 105.3 FM, Houston’s 790 AM and Waco’s 94.5 FM. A proud Baylor Bear, Carson injects Baylor news into her broadcasts (and Twitter feed) whenever possible.

    Sic ’em, Deb!
