• Top-ranked Lady Bears fend off No. 2 Notre Dame to win preseason WNIT

Brittney Griner with WNIT trophyFor the second day in a row, a top-5 team came to Waco and left with a loss. Saturday, it was Baylor football defeating No. 5 Oklahoma. Sunday, the top-ranked Lady Bear basketball team followed suit, sending No. 2 Notre Dame back to Indiana after a 94-81 defeat that wasn’t even really that close.

Baylor claimed the preseason WNIT title with the win, extending their non-conference home winning streak to 51 straight games. National player of the year candidate Brittney Griner (pictured) led the way with 32 points and 14 rebounds; preseason all-American Odyssey Sims added 25 points, six assists and six steals.

The schedule doesn’t get much easier for head coach Kim Mulkey’s squad, either. The Lady Bears play at No. 3 Tennessee next Sunday (1 p.m. CT on ESPN), then host No. 4 UConn on Dec. 18 (7:30 p.m. on ESPN; a few tickets still available).

    Sic ’em, Lady Bears!
