• President Starr welcomes Condoleezza Rice to campus for ‘On Topic’ conversation

Condoleezza Rice and Ken Starr at Baylor

An overflowing Waco Hall crowd welcomed former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the Baylor campus last night, where she discussed her career and her new book on stage with President Ken Starr. (See pictures from the evening here, or watch video of the entire event here.)

Rice’s appearance came as part of an ongoing series called “On Topic,” in which President Starr converses with notable figures; billionaire alternative energy proponent T. Boone Pickens was the first guest in the series earlier this year. Her book, No Higher Honor, went on sale Nov. 1.

This was not the first visit to Central Texas for Rice. The second African American and the second woman ever to serve as U.S. Secretary of State, Rice visited Waco several times while working alongside President George W. Bush at his ranch in Crawford. She recalled some of that time, as well as her career leading up to those years and even what the future might hold (“I don’t see myself in politics”) during the hour-plus conversation.

How wonderful for the Baylor community to be able to host speakers of such influence!

    Sic ’em, Condoleezza Rice!
