• Beautiful story lands engaged alums as finalists in contest for all-expenses-paid wedding

Ashley and ChaseFour years ago, Baylor sophomore Ashley Green stopped by an apartment in The Centre to pick up her dog from a friend — and walked smack into the middle of a men’s Bible study. Though Ashley was mortified, her friend introduced her to each of the guys, including one young man who shook her hand but didn’t even say his name. Ashley figured he was an exchange student who didn’t speak English; as it turns out, he had simply been struck speechless.

Over time, that Baylor guy, Chase Mekaelian, found the words to ask Ashley out, and this past May, to ask for her hand in marriage. Now, the couple is one of 11 finalists for Entwined 2012, a contest that will provide an all-expenses-paid wedding for the couple that receives the most online votes by Nov. 15.

But that’s not all of the story. You see, just before Ashley’s 15th birthday, her mother died of breast cancer. Every girl dreams of planning the perfect wedding with her mother, but that dream died for Ashley before it ever came close to fruition. This November, Jeanne Green will have been gone for 10 years — but perhaps through this contest, she’s still helping Ashley plan her wedding.
