• Israel the site of an unlikely Baylor basketball reunion

Charles & Carol Sternau with Tweety Carter and Lace Dunn

Baylor has had plenty of alums go on to play professional basketball, both in the NBA (from David Wesley to Brian Skinner to Ekpe Udoh) and in other overseas leagues.

Baylor grad Chandra Ford, BBA ’06, wrote to tell us that her parents ran into former BU stars Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn in Israel, of all places, where they received a hearty Baylor welcome. Ford’s folks (neither of whom went to Baylor) were in the country on business and stopped in to see the Bears’ new team, Bnei Hasharon, in an exhibition game. Ford’s mother writes,

“We walked in, and dad yelled, ‘Sic ’em, Bears!’ They saw us, smiled, and did a ‘sic ’em Bears’ to us from the basketball court. The guys came over after the game so that we could take a picture. They were sooo nice and sooo polite! They thanked us for coming and told us that they had another game next week.  :) P.S.  They won the game, too! Everyone kept saying how remarkable they were!”

The Israel Premier League just began the 2011-12 season last week; in Bnei Hasharon’s season opener, Carter led all players with 24 points and added six assists while Dunn added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

    Sic ’em, Bears in Israel!
