• Baylor Opera alum featured on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’

Kiri DeonarineFans of A Prairie Home Companion may have recognized a familiar voice earlier this summer, as Kiri Deonarine — formerly of the Houston Grand Opera, beginning this fall with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Baylor class of 2007 — was a featured guest.

On the show (listen to the archived broadcast here), Deonarine performed three numbers (plus a commercial script of sorts) before being interviewed by host Garrison Keillor in which she talked about her music and her love of skydiving. (Random, eh?)

Since graduating from Baylor’s School of Music, Deonarine has quickly moved up in the world of opera. She was a Grand Finalist in the 2009 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and won first place in the 2010 Dallas Opera Guild Competition. She will make her Lyric Opera of Chicago debut this fall as Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos.

    Sic ’em, Kiri!
