• Baylor alum named chair of Texas State Board of Education

Barbara CargillAs our son approaches school age, my wife and I have started paying more attention to all sorts of education issues as we debate the merits and costs of public school, private school, homeschooling, etc. Thus, it caught my eye earlier this month when Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed a new chair for the State Board of Education: Barbara Cargill, Baylor class of 1982.

After earning her degree in education from Baylor, Cargill taught science to children in Dallas and Houston for almost 20 years. She was honored three times with national awards for her teaching abilities and has served on the State Board since 2004. Most recently, she has served as founder and director of Wonders of the Woodlands Science Camp since 1995; that’s her and a WOW! camper at right.

    Sic ’em, Barbara!
