• Graduate sport management students win first place at national case study competition

    Sport Management Graduate Students

A decade ago, I came close to entering Baylor’s graduate sport management program before life led another way. From this story, however, it seems that the program I considered is now turning out better students than ever.

Four Baylor graduate students in sport management claimed the championship at a national case study competition held during the Scholarly Conference on College Sport last month at the University of North Carolina. The students prepared and defended a study on the long-term ramifications of Division I athletics at colleges and universities, applying the skills they’ve learned in the classroom to a real-life situation facing many institutions today.

The team of Leeann Lower, Meron Tamrat, BBA ’10, Kyle Lintelman and Lane Wakefield (pictured) took home first place, while a second team from Baylor (Christopher Buford, BSED ’10, Lindsey Short, Matt Rodgers and Ryan Kota) came in fifth. Many of the students also gave presentations at the conference; in all, Baylor graduate students presented nine peer-reviewed research presentations on topics ranging from “An Analysis of the Impact of One-and-Done on the Academic and Professional Success of Division I Basketball Players” to “A Comparison of Student-Athlete versus Student Attendance of FBS Football”.

Sic ’em, Baylor sport management graduate students!
