• Bear named national “Student Nurse of the Year”

Stephanie LewisWhen the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) recognized Baylor student Stephanie Lewis as its “Student Nurse of the Year” at the group’s annual convention in San Diego this past August, they had to do so without Lewis. Why? She already had other plans.

No, she wasn’t blowing off the honor for a summer vacation. That same week, Lewis was serving as a nurse extern at a camp for children with arthritis sponsored by the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Camp Joint Adventure. So, the NBNA came to Lewis, surprising her last month with the award during one of her classes at Baylor’s Louise Herrington School School of Nursing.

“Stephanie has been very active and involved here at the School of Nursing. However, in spite of her busy schedule, she also remains involved in her church and other organizations. We are very proud of her,” said Patricia Davis, Director of Student Initiatives for the nursing school.

    Sic ’em, Stephanie!
