• Things to know before heading to the game Saturday

Floyd Casey Stadium parking/traffic mapAs you make your way to Floyd Casey Stadium for Baylor football’s season opener Saturday (or any other game this season), you’ll find quite a few changes: new turf, renovated restrooms, concession stands accepting credit cards, and a new wrap along the field-level walls honoring Baylor seniors, among a host of updates and improvements.

But there’s one thing you’ll want to know before you get to the stadium, and that’s the new traffic pattern around Floyd Casey. Fans who park in the general public parking areas on the east and north sides of the stadium should use either Clay or Dutton avenues to reach those lots. If you’re coming down I-35, your best bet is probably to exit and come down 17th Street to either Clay or Dutton (see enlarged map here).

The main entrance off Valley Mills Drive will be for credentialed parking only — those with passes for the Green, Gold, Brown, Sky Box, Creekside, Handicapped and Media lots on the south and west sides of the stadium. With a large crowd expected Saturday, you’ll want to make sure you arrive early. (Besides, you won’t want to miss the March of the Bears at 3:30 p.m. and all the other fun in Snickers Touchdown Alley, which opens three hours before gametime.)

Alternatively, you can always catch a shuttle to the game. The Gold Rush Shuttle runs from Heritage Square downtown, stops at Vitek’s, then drops fans off at Touchdown Alley; it runs continually beginning three hours before kickoff. A campus shuttle also carries students and fans between Penland Hall and the stadium.

Make sure you’re in your seats by the time the team runs onto the field, as the BaylorVision video board introduction will feature the debut of a new song written and performed by Baylor alumnus David Crowder. The song, “Rise Up,” was inspired by Baylor football’s 2010 theme, seen in commercials and other materials leading up to this fall, and will be released to Christian radio on Monday.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the game!

    Sic ’em, Baylor football fans!
