• Move-In Day welcomes Class of 2014, Baylor’s largest ever

Baylor Move-In Day 2010Baylor volunteers — including President Ken Starr — welcomed what is expected to be the largest class in Baylor history to campus this week with the usual show of Texas friendliness that is known as Move-In Day. (See photos from Move-In 2010 here.)

More than 2,600 students, professors, staff and community volunteers pitched in through triple-digit heat to help the Class of 2014 get settled into their residence halls, beginning with Baylor’s international students Monday and Tuesday and continuing with the rest of the new class Wednesday and Thursday. Baylor expects a record freshman enrollment of around 3,200 first-year students, which would surpass the previous high of 3,168 freshmen set in fall 2005. (Another interesting note: More than 34,000 students applied to attend Baylor this fall, another university record.)

If you haven’t experienced Move-In Day at Baylor… Well, you’ve missed out. Rather than force parents and students to struggle through the heat, lugging box after box across an unfamiliar campus to the student’s room, families simply pull up to the curb and open the doors. Volunteers take it from there, unloading belongings and carrying them up to the room; by the time the family has parked the car and headed to the room, all the student’s stuff is there waiting!

Sic ’em, Baylor volunteers and the Class of 2014!
