Women’s tennis claims sixth straight Big 12 title
For the sixth straight season and seventh time in head coach Joey Scrivano’s eight seasons, the Baylor women’s tennis team is also the Big 12 Conference champion.
And the numbers get even more impressive: The Lady Bears are 24-2 on the season and ranked second in the nation. They’ve won 18 straight matches this year, and have not lost to a Big 12 opponent since March 4, 2007; that’s 52 straight wins over conference teams, if you’re counting. Over the past six seasons, Baylor has an overall record of 159-27, including a 65-1 mark in Big 12 play.
The Lady Bears’ Big 12 title capped off a great weekend for Baylor athletics:
- Baylor track and field claimed five titles at the Drake Relays, winning the men’s 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays, the women’s 4×400 relay and the women’s 100. All seven of Baylor’s relay teams finished third or better.
- Senior Hannah Burke tied for second at the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championships.
- Baseball took two of three from Nebraska, and softball swept Iowa State in a two-game series.
- In the pro ranks, not only were two Bears selected in the NFL Draft, but former Baylor basketball standout Curtis Jerrells was called up by the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
Sic ’em, Baylor women’s tennis and Baylor athletics!
