Freshman’s musical talents lead to scholarship and service
Freshman Manuel Munoz is a talented musician — three times an all-state trumpet player in high school, and one of five trumpeters chosen as a member of the Texas State Jazz Ensemble. His skills led to a Baylor music scholarship, but as he works to further improve his play as a music major, he’s also using his talent to help others as a member of a Salvation Army band.
“God’s just blessed me with the gift of music, and I want to give back to him what he’s given to me,” he told the Waco Tribune-Herald. A third-generation Salvation Army member, the Austin native first starting helping out by volunteering to feed the homeless at age 6; he began playing in a Salvation Army church band at age 9. Through his service has had the opportunity to travel to places such as Trinidad, Tobago, Fiji and Mexico City. “We may not speak the same language, but we’ll be able to praise the same God through music,” he says.
Sic ’em, Manuel!
