• Local physician among those leading the charge for affordable health care

Dr. Roland GoertzFor the past 12 years, Dr. Roland Goertz, MBA ’03, has served as CEO of the three foundations that oversee operations at the Waco Family Practice Center, which operates one of the oldest family medicine residency programs west of the Mississippi River and provides care to nearly 50,000 McLennan County residents. Now he’ll be overseeing much more; in October, Goertz was chosen as president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

In this new role, Goertz will serve as an advocate for family physicians and patients nationwide as it relates to the U.S. health care system. (Read his thoughts on health care here.) Goertz previously served three years on the AAFP’s Board of Directors and has been a member of the association since 1979. A longtime advocate of affordable health care and primary care doctors, Goertz has been recognized multiple times by the AAFP and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians for his dedication to the cause. He also was among the featured speakers at last month’s hunger summit at Baylor.

    Sic ’em, Dr. Goertz!
