• Bear earns rare opportunity for internships with Supreme Court and White House in one year

Emanuel Gawrieh and father at Supreme CourtWhile internships in Washington, D.C., aren’t uncommon for Baylor students, the opportunity to serve as an intern for both the U.S. Supreme Court and the White House in the same year is almost unheard of. For a sophomore to receive such an opportunity… Well, now you’re talking unique — and you’re talking Emanuel Gawrieh.

As a U.S. Supreme Court intern — a role almost always reserved for college seniors — Gawrieh (pictured here with his dad) was one of two undergraduates in the country assigned to work under the auspices of the Court. He worked directly under Dr. Melissa Aubin, the 2008-09 U.S. Supreme Court Fellow, and through her for the Chief Justice John Roberts.

As a White House intern, Gawrieh worked directly with the Domestic Policy Council and had a special involvement in contributing to President Barack Obama’s Fatherhood Initiative, announced in a major Father’s Day program at the White House. Gawrieh contributed to a number of logistical and hospitality efforts, and during the president’s specially taped message to fathers, sat directly in front of the president, next to the camera.

Now back in Waco as a junior, Gawrieh is serving as a Community Leader (CL — formerly known as an RA) in Brooks College as he works toward completing his philosophy degree with a political science minor.

    Sic ’em, Emanuel!
