Football road win continues undefeated fall for Baylor athletics
Well THAT was a fun weekend… An extra day off for Labor Day and watching the big Baylor football win at Wake Forest headlined the holiday weekend, but that wasn’t all for Bear fans to enjoy. Baylor volleyball went 3-0 on the weekend, BU soccer won Friday and Sunday, and both Baylor’s men’s and women’s cross country teams claimed first place at the Bear Twilight Invitational to complete an undefeated weekend for Baylor athletics.
In all, Baylor’s team sports are a combined 11-0-2 (volleyball 7-0, soccer 3-0-2, football 1-0) on the young season. Saturday’s win moved up Baylor football up to “receiving votes” in the AP Top 25 Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll released today, while BU volleyball has received votes in each of the last two AVCA polls.
Already, football (Joe Pawelek), volleyball (Anna Breyfogle) and soccer (Hanna Gilmore) Bears have earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors. On top of that, CBS Sports analyst Dennis Dodd named Art Briles his “Coach of the Week“, and wide receiver Ernest Smith’s touchdown pass to Lanear Sampson was the No. 4 play on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays from Saturday’s college football action.
As Baylor alum and ESPN NFL Live host Trey Wingo tweeted Saturday: “Baylor 24 Wake 21. SIC EM!”
Sic ’em, indeed, Baylor Athletics!
