• Baylor grads join students in using summer for service

    Serving in Ghana

Over 160 Baylor students went on mission trips this summer coordinated through Baylor’s Spiritual Life office to places like Kenya, Uganda, Honduras, Argentina and Rwanda, but they weren’t the only Bears who used their summer breaks to serve on mission trips. Alumni Bob Gillchrest (c/o ’66) and his wife Anita (BSN ’69) wrote in to describe their experiences ministering at the Baptist Medical Centre alongside another Baylor Bear in Nalerigu, Ghana.

“Anita, a certified pediatric nurse, saw children at the nutrition clinic as well as regular patients in the outpatient clinic. Three days a week some 400-500 Ghanians come to the medical center in northern Ghana to be seen by one of the doctors, medical students or medical practitioners. Only three doctors are appointed IMB missionaries; everyone else is a volunteer. Also ministering at BMC is Dr. Joel Dickens (BS ’85).

“Bob worked with the hospital chaplains, preached at the Second Baptist Church in Nalerigu, and preached for the morning evangelistic service. Chances are good that they will return next year, too, while their school districts take the summer off.”

Sic ’em, Baylor Bears in service!
