• Community tailgate draws 1,000 Waco residents for pre-game party

HOT Community TailgateAbout 1,000 members of the Waco community turned out Saturday for a free tailgate before the Baylor baseball game that afternoon. My wife and I appreciated the free hot dogs and Blue Bell ice cream, and the hundreds of kids running around seemed to be enjoying the inflatables and other games put on by Baylor student groups. Both the City of Waco and Baylor are working hard to increase interaction between the university and the local community, and Saturday’s event was designed as a way for Baylor to thank the people of Central Texas for their support this year. In addition to the activities, the university allotted 900 free tickets to the day’s top-25 showdown between No. 9 Baylor and No. 13 Oklahoma, and every one of those tickets was distributed.

It was great to see the interaction between Baylor students and Waco citizens — particularly the little ones, who we hope will one day be Baylor Bears themselves! Between events like these and the new spirit initiative recently launched by Baylor Athletics, hopefully soon Waco will be drenched in green and gold!

    Sic ’em, Waco community!
