• Baptist society, Morehouse College honor Baylor professors

Drs. Doug Weaver and Joel GregoryBeing a Christian university with a long Baptist heritage, one would expect Baylor to have particularly excellent professors in religion, both at the undergraduate and graduate (seminary) level. And one would not be disappointed. For example, the following two honors just came to my attention recently.

Dr. Doug Weaver, director of undergraduate studies and an assistant professor in the department of religion, was named the First Place Award Winner for the Baptist Heritage Preaching Contest presented by the Baptist History and Heritage Society. Weaver, a member of Baylor’s Baptist 400 committee who literally wrote the book on Baptist history, looked back at the denomination’s past in this article for the Winter 08-09 issue of Baylor Magazine.

Truett Seminary professor of preaching Dr. Joel Gregory, meanwhile, was inducted into Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers. The distinction is given by the historically black college to preachers who have contributed to the MLK’s vision for peace and justice.

    Sic ’em, Baylor professors!
