• Men’s hoops to host first-round NIT game vs. Georgetown

Curtis JerrellsAfter falling just short of a miracle run that would have landed the Baylor men’s basketball team in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, the Bears were named a No. 3 seed in the NIT and will get to host their first round match-up with No. 6 seed Georgetown Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT. Tickets are on sale now, but if you can’t make it to Waco, you can still catch the game on ESPN2.

During a run that captured the attention of college basketball fans across the country, Baylor — which finished the regular season in ninth place in the Big 12 — pulled off a mild upset of 8th-seed Nebraska, then followed that up by shocking top-seed Kansas and breaking a 24-game losing streak to Texas to earn the program’s first-ever trip to the Big 12 Tournament Championship Title Game. In the end, playing four games in four days took its toll on the Bears’ legs and they came up short against 11th-ranked Missouri, 73-60. (Click here for a photo gallery from the title game.)

The NIT bid gives Baylor consecutive postseason appearances for just the second time in program history; the Bears also made the postseason in 1987 (NIT) and 1988 (NCAA). The winner of Wednesday’s game will play the winner of Virginia Tech-Duquesne either Saturday or Monday at a location to be determined.

    Sic ’em, Baylor men’s basketball!
