• Men’s hoops and Baylor violist each record big wins

Dawson WhiteMost of campus was focused yesterday on the Baylor men’s basketball team’s big win over Georgetown in the first round of the NIT; a highly energized crowd of 8,400 saw the Bears earn their first postseason victory in nearly 60 years, as BU came away with a 74-72 win. No. 3 seed Baylor now advances to play at No. 2 seed Virginia Tech; tip-off is Saturday at 10 a.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN.

What’s that you say? You want to hear about more student victories? Okay — here’s one of a very different sort. Junior Dawson White, a music (viola) major at Baylor, will be performing at Carnegie Hall on April 15 as one of 90 young classical musicians from 70 countries selected for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra.

White submitted an audition video through YouTube (naturally). From 3,000 entries, 200 finalists were put up for a vote on a special YouTube channel (where else?). White was one of 13 violists to make the cut and thus will perform in New York next month. A video of the orchestra’s performance will be posted on (can you guess?) YouTube (of course!) the next day.

    Sic ’em, students!
