Lady Bears claim second Big 12 Tournament title
By winning their second Big 12 Conference Tournament title in five years, the fifth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears showed that they are not a one-player team. Since losing their leading scorer and rebounder (and Wooden Award finalist), Danielle Wilson, to a likely season-ending knee injury, the Lady Bears have gone 4-1, a stretch that includes three wins over top-25 opponents — and, of course, the Big 12 Tournament title.
With Wilson out, senior Jessica Morrow (pictured) stepped up to lead Baylor through the conference tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player honors after averaging 17 points per game. She was joined on the all-tournament team by fellow Lady Bears Morghan Medlock and Jhasmin Player. (Click here for photos from the Big 12 Conference Tournament title game.)
Lady Bear fans will remember that the last time Baylor won the Big 12 Tournament (2005), the team also went on to win the national championship. Will this year’s team follow suit? The Lady Bears are projected to be a No. 2 seed when the NCAA bracket is announced tonight (6 p.m. CT, ESPN); join the team for a selection show party tonight at the Ferrell Center or follow along on TV.
Sic ’em, Lady Bears!
