Baylor Model UN group named best delegation at national competition

While most of us were simply planning how to attack the Thanksgiving spread, a group of Baylor students was working through much bigger issues — global issues, in fact — at the American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago.

And the 11 Baylor representatives did much more than just participate; they came back to Waco as the Overall Best Delegation (Best School), winning a competition that included more than 1,400 college students and faculty from across the world. Baylor was assigned to represent Uganda for the conference, with students role-playing a United Nations-like set-up to talk through issues such as disarmament, human rights and organized crime with students from other schools representing other countries.

By earning the Best Delegation nod, the Baylor group — Tim Azevedo, Lucas Buckles, Allison Campbell, Christopher Dunn, Jaimee Gates, Stanley Kabzinski, Will Masters, Seth Reed, Jeffery Vitarius, Brook Worcester and Steven Zimmerman — earned a spot in the National Model United Nations Conference next spring. That competition, held at the UN headquarters in New York City, will include over 4,000 delegates representing universities from five continents.
