• Helping students Rock the Vote

Rock the VoteIt seems like recently news of the upcoming presidential election is everywhere you turn. A couple of weeks, during the Democratic National Convention, I flipped through the channels and found vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden’s acceptance speech being carried live on 12 of the 80 or so channels I get on cable — 15%!

But, knowing all the information in the world about the candidates means nothing if you don’t actually turn out to vote. Towards that end, Baylor is supporting the national Rock the Vote campaign all this week with their own local events, all to encourage students to register to vote by actually taking voter registration to where students are — places like the Student Union Building and Fountain Mall.

Assuming Hurricane Ike cooperates, the week will conclude tomorrow night with a concert featuring three bands — Sleeper Star, Shapes Stars Make, and Trey Duck — all made up of Baylor alums. The event will also include free food and, of course, voter registration.

    Sic ’em, Rock the Vote!
