• Baylor women’s tennis among nation’s elite programs

Joey ScrivanoA couple of months ago, we noted that Baylor had seven teams ranked in the top 25. That’s still true, but a new program has taken over the lead as Baylor’s highest-ranked program.

Head coach Joey Scrivano has his women’s tennis squad ranked No. 4 in the country. In fact, the team has reached as high as No. 2 this season, thanks to a 20-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 start in Big 12 Conference play. Four of Baylor’s six singles players and two of the squad’s three doubles teams are nationally ranked.

The Lady Bears’ only two losses this season have come against teams that were at the time ranked No. 1 in the country — a 4-2 loss to Stanford in February and a 5-2 loss to Northwestern in March.

With five regular season matches left to play, the women are well on their way towards their fifth Big 12 title in six years — not to mention their 10th NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 13 seasons.

    Sic ’em, Baylor women’s tennis!
