• Basketball programs enter Big 12 play on a roll

Rachel AllisonBaylor’s men’s basketball team has received a lot of attention lately, and rightfully so, given their impressive 12-2 start. But don’t forget the Lady Bears; head coach Kim Mulkey’s squad is ranked No. 8 in the nation and began conference play this week.

Junior Rachel Allison (pictured) is the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, the Lady Bears’ second such honor this season. Allison is one of five Baylor players averaging double-digit scoring, along with Angela Tisdale, Jhasmin Player, Jessica Morrow and Danielle Wilson (who recently was the subject of a nice feature in New York’s Newsday). All five rank among the league’s top 30 in scoring; no other team in the Big 12 can match that.

The Baylor men and women will host their first home conference games of the year Saturday in the Ferrell Center. The Lady Bears face Texas A&M at 12:30, followed by the men vs. Iowa State at 5 p.m. Get your tickets now! (If you can’t make it out for the doubleheader, the men’s game will be aired live on ESPN Classic.)

    Sic ’em, Baylor basketball!
